More and more, we’re hearing about the phenomenon of ‘women’s travel.’ A large part of that travel is focused on solo travelers and solo travelers joining tours with other solo women. This growth has spawned a variety of women’s travel resources. There are now excellent travel sites and travel blogs focusing on information specifically written to interest women who travel.
Here are five that have drawn a large following and for good reason.
- Adventurous Kate With over 100,000 Instagram followers and 50,000+ Twitter and Facebook followers, Adventurous Kate is a woman’s inspiration. At 26, she quit her job to travel Southeast Asia for six months which turned into 5 years traveling over 65 countries. Her site includes 82+ travel resources and stories on her solo travels.
- Hippie in Heels blogger, Rachel Jones quit her nursing job and left America to start a new life in Goa, India. Her blog includes ‘girly guides’ featuring spa retreats, places to shop for boho chic designs and tips on 67+ countries she’s visited – of course, including India.
- JourneyWoman is a thorough women’s travel resource targeting the 45+ audience. Evelyn Hannon started it in 1997 – so 20+ years of expertise – and their readership is 69,000. Site design is traditional with information all over the place, but the cultural and women’s info is vast. For instance, the New Travel Stuff section includes: She’s So Very Subway Savvy, Culturally Correct Nudity, Journeywoman’s Top Ten Travel Books, A Woman’s Know Before You Go Guide to India, Her Bandana — Forty Terrific Travel Uses.
- Women Travel the World sifts through women’s travel sites and lists over 200 tours for women from a variety of travel sources. As well as women’s tours, it lists accommodation for women travelers, local guides who are women and female-owned tour companies.
- I am Aileen – This travel blog documents the adventures, stories, and travel tips of Aileen Adalid — a young entrepreneur and solo female traveler from the Philippines! Her articles include money saving tips, photo tips, least visited countries and city guides.
If you’re a woman planning to strike out on your own, I think you’ll find these women’s travel resources inspiring and informative.
